Methodology

How we estimate credit.

Every opportunity on RecertHero ships with an estimated credit value per certification. Here’s how those numbers get calculated, and what their limits are.

01 · Step

Provider-stated values come first

When a provider explicitly publishes a CPE / CEU value for an activity (SANS, ISACA, ISC2, etc.), we use that value verbatim. Confidence is high; the badge in the credit estimate card reads “Verified by provider.”

02 · Step

Length-based fallback

For activities without a stated credit value, we estimate hours from session duration. Webinars / courses / events: 1.0 credit per hour. Podcasts and recorded video: 0.5× (industry norm for passive listening). Reading: 0.25× (conservative). Rounded to the nearest quarter hour.

03 · Step

Per-certification eligibility

Each activity is mapped to certifications based on content keywords and the provider’s known coverage. ISC2 certs (CISSP, CCSP) typically accept CompTIA-published content; CompTIA certs accept ISC2 content; vendor-specific training maps to whatever the vendor’s cert program publishes.

04 · Step

What these estimates are not

Authoritative determinations. Each certifying body has its own audit rules and final acceptance criteria. We surface the most likely outcome based on public information. You are responsible for verifying eligibility with the issuing body before claiming any credit on a renewal submission.
